What is GRE?
The full form of GRE is Graduate Record Examination. It is trademark of a US based organisation, ETS. All across the globe, students appear for GRE to fulfill admission criteria for graduate schools around the world. The three sections of GRE are:
- Analytical Writing
- Verbal Reasoning
- Quantitative Aptitude
The GRE scores are on the scale of 130 to 170. Each section in GRE have their own sectional scores, and there is an overall GRE score, too. Some of the Universities in France ask for overall scores, while some have individual score requirements. The verbal and quantitative aptitude have scores of 130-170, and the analytical writing has a scoring scale of 4.0-6.0. What GRE scores do You Need?
There are two types of GRE:
- GRE General Test, and
- GRE Subject Test
The General test is taken by a large number of students and most universities will ask for the GRE scores of this exam. Only if there is a subject specific program, candidate will have to take a subject specific GRE, called GRE Subject Test.
The safe scores are somewhat more than 150 in quantitative and verbal reasoning, and more than 4.0 in analytical writing. These scores will give you options to choose from number of Universities as you have scored in top 50% of the students. The top-tier universities however will have a higher requirements, like students from top 10%, with scores of more than 5.0 in analytical writing and 160+ in other two subjects.
At the time of the registration, you are allowed to choose up to four institutions you want to send your GRE scores when they are declared. The GRE scores are declared generally in 10 to 15 days from the date of the exam. They are automatically sent to the institutions of your choice once they are available.
